When someone hands me their odd bits of wool...

... I say, granny squares here I come! I've had loads of fun making these so far, but have completely forgotten where I got the pattern from! I did have some trouble reading it, so I'll write it out again here, but if anybody recognises it please tell me and I'll credit them :)

You need four colours and a 4mm hook

So, to start make a magic ring.

Chain 2, 1 dc into ring (counts as one dc2tog)
*ch1 dc2tog* five times (6 dc2tog in total)
Now pull the tail so the ring is closed, chain 1 and slip stitch into the 2 stitch from the chain 2 we did at the start. Tie off.

Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo at this stage, so we'll have to just keep going :)
Now picking up your next colour through one of the ch1 spaces, chain 2 and dc once (counts as one dc2tog) , ch1 then dc2tog into the same space.
Now picking up your next colour through one of the ch1 spaces, chain 2 and dc once (counts as one dc2tog) , ch1 then dc2tog into the same space.

Ch1, then into next space * dc2tog, ch1, dc2tog, ch1* repeat in each of the ch1 spaces - you should have 12 in total! Slip stitch into the beginning chain 2.

Picking up your third colour (picture above) Ch3, (counts as 1dc) and dc twice into same space.

Ch1, dc three times into next ch1 space. Continue around in each of the 12 spaces are filled then ch1 and join with a slip stitch into the chain 3.

Yours should look like this by now :)

Now with the final colour we'll make it a square!

Bring the colour up in one of the ch1 spaces and ch3 (counts as a dc) and then dc twice into the same space.
Ch1 and into next ch1 space - 2htr, 1tr, ch3, 1tr, 2htr, ch1. Phew!
Dc three times into next ch1 space, ch1, dc three times into next ch1 space, ch1 then do the corner sequence.

Keep going round, doing two sets of the 3 dc's and then creating a corner and you'll have your granny square :D

Taadaah!

I'm looking forward to making some more of these and hopefully making a blanket... She says with a hundred other things to do! ^_^

dc2tog: yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull loop through, yarn over, pull loop through two loops on hook, yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, pull loop through stitch, yarn over, pull loop through two loops on hook, yarn over, pull loop through all remaining loops on hook.

half trebles:  Yarn around hook twice, insert hook into stitch, pull a loop through, yarn over, pull loop through 2 loops on hook (3 left on hook) yarn over, pull loop through all three stitches on hook.
